The German National Tourist Board (GNTB), has named leading travel marketing agency Gate 7 Pty Ltd as their Australian representative, conducting both trade and public relations services.
“Australia is an important market for Germany’s incoming tourism industry”, said Petra Hedorfer, Chief Executive Officer of the GNTB. “The number of trips abroad by Australians has been rising continuously since 2003 and further grown in the volume of international travel is expected.”
In 2011, the German Federal Statistical Office registered more than 630,000 overnight stays by visitors from Australia, representing a year-on-year increase of just under three per cent. “By 2020, we expect this number to reach around 850,000” said Ms Hedorfer.
“Gate 7 is so excited to add Germany to our client list,” says Gate 7 Managing Director, Jo-Anna Palmer. “In 2012 we’ll be showcasing German culture through food, wine and history, targeting both the baby boomer and youth travel/backpacker markets. Our aim is to really put Germany on the map as a country with an incredibly diverse culture and a rich food and wine scene.”
The account will be managed by Susann Schwachenwalde. Susann was born and raised in Neuruppin approximately an hour from Berlin. She moved to Sydney last year and says she is looking forward to working with the Australian trade and media to promote her home country.
“I’m looking forward to sharing some of my favourite German experiences and places with Australians and educating people on the country’s great contrasts; Germany is a land of cutting-edge, modern innovation and efficiency but also has a rich, authentic history and culture. It boasts a vibrant and edgy nightlife as well as quaint villages and expansive, undulating vineyards.
