Australia’s backpacker tourism industry will gather on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast next week to build business contacts, discuss the latest trends and learn about new tourism markets.
Date: Tuesday 1 May 2012
The Australian Youth Tourism Exchange (AYTE), held over two days at the Novotel Twin Waters Resort, will bring together 85 suppliers and distributors over two days of meetings, providing opportunities for new business and greater access to international markets.
The business to business opportunities offered by both AYTE and the Backpacker and Youth Industry Conference to be held on 1 May, will connect international distributors from 11 countries with over 50 Australian youth product suppliers from across Australia.
This year’s Backpacker and Youth Industry Conference is the 7th annual event and it once again will provide delegates with the opportunity to take a close look at the this sector including the issues affecting inbound arrivals, the hot topics of distribution and commissions, the reform of the Working Holiday Visa and the emergence of Asian markets.
Tourism Australia’s Managing Director, Andrew McEvoy, was pleased to once again be closely involved in the Australian Youth Tourism Exchange.
“The youth segment remains a really important part of our visitor mix, representing just under a third of total international arrivals in 2011. These people tend to stay for long periods, which is great in terms of the tourism dollars they spend here. And they also have a wonderful appetite to explore our country, which is great for dispersal.
“Importantly, today’s backpackers are often tomorrow’s high rollers, coming back to Australia down the track, often with their families, so it is critical that we work hard now to deliver the best first impressions – impressions which we also know they are very likely to share with their family and friends, using their smart phones and social media channels.”
Around 100 delegates would be attending the two events, held over three days from 30April-2 May.
