Los Angeles: As it celebrates 100 years as a second home to Hollywood royalty, local community members and visitors from around the world, Beverly Hills Hotel is heralding the future with a restoration led by Tihany Design which is set to take place in phased stages between now and 2015.
The thoughtfully-crafted restoration will honour the original patina of The Beverly Hills Hotel, by restoring and polishing its iconic design elements and enriching its warm residential feel. The hotel lobby, the Polo Lounge, guest rooms and suites, as well as the famed pool and cabanas will all be enhanced and refined while respecting their original style. However, the hotel’s signature red-carpet entrance, CW Stockwell-designed banana leaf wallpaper, green and white stripes and famous pink exterior will remain constants. Project work will be conducted in various phases over the next three years so as not to affect the operation and inconvenience guests.
Accomplished designer Adam Tihany, who is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading hospitality designers and an inductee in the Interior Design Hall of Fame, will be at the head of restoration efforts for The Beverly Hills Hotel. The first stage of Tihany’s meticulous process is already underway and focuses on the hotel’s beloved lobby, where new lighting, carpets and a beautiful banana leaf centre medallion crafted of limestone will salute the historic beauty of this popular gathering space. The lobby is scheduled to be complete by July 2012, followed by a gradual enhancement of guest rooms in the hotel’s main building.
All guest rooms are expected to be refreshed by early 2014, with 20 to 35 rooms slated to undergo restoration at any one time. Completed guest rooms will showcase many sophisticated new features and amenities, including wall-mounted B&O televisions with integrated technology in all rooms and updated fixtures with a contemporary polished steel finish in the bathrooms. Guests will appreciate upgrades, all designed to add luxury and a feeling of modernity to the guest experience while keeping a chic residential feel.
This autumn, the legendary Polo Lounge will undergo its own subtle yet carefully-fashioned restoration, thus reinforcing it as the ultimate dining destination for Los Angeles’ most glamorous dining scene. As for early 2013, the celebrated pool cabanas and Cabana Café will be upgraded in keeping with the overall design theme.
“The Beverly Hills Hotel will forever be a timeless fixture in the community,” said Edward A. Mady, regional director, West Coast, USA and general manager. “We look forward to implementing a restoration which will lovingly highlight the hotel’s ties to the spirit and history of Beverly Hills – and which will provide an effortlessly relaxed new California hotel experience in a one-of-a-kind, legendary setting. Most importantly, we will take great care to maintain much of this beautiful building’s originality and landmark features while also staying internationally relevant with the next generation of luxury travellers.”
“The essence of The Beverly Hills Hotel is a sparkling cocktail of design, style and Hollywood glamour,” says Adam Tihany. “I am enjoying every moment of polishing and updating this gem," he adds.
Celebrating a glittering history as legendary as the glamour of Hollywood, The Beverly Hills Hotel turned 100 in 2012 and is marking its centenary year with a variety of signature offerings and experiences.
