A sailor’s drinking den on the harbour?

The Island Bar opens for winter & the biennale of Sydney

Think that a harbour island bar is only for summer? Well think again. For the first time, Sydney’s favourite harbour destination, The Island Bar on Cockatoo Island, is open for the winter months and during the Biennale of Sydney.

Don’t be concerned about getting a winter chill; The Island Bar folk are not ones to leave you out in the cold. They have created a warm ‘sailor’s den’ in front of the bar- a marquee set up with a winter cocktail menu, homemade hot mulled wine and their famous wood fired pizzas. In the afternoons you can kick back with a beer, a cocktail or a warming non alcoholic drink and admire the harbour view from the warmth of the semi enclosed space.

The bar will be open from June to August on Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 11.30am to 6pm for lunch, afternoon drinks or an early dinner. Located just a short ferry ride from Circular Quay, the Island Bar is the perfect pit stop before or after you check out the Biennale of Sydney on Cockatoo Island, Australia's largest and most exciting contemporary visual arts event which runs from 28 June to 16 September featuring artworks, talks, performances and activities.

The world-class cocktail list, created by charismatic Italian owner and bar manager Marco Faraone, will be as tempting as in Summer but with some winter twists, and the menu will come predominantly from the wood fired oven- from pizzas to specialty roasts with an Italian accent.
