Australian Air Holidays is offering a rare and unique air tour to Kangaroo Island and Flinders Ranges in September on board one of the world’s most iconic historic aircraft – the Douglas DC-3.
Built in the 1940s and used as a military transport aircraft, the re-furbished ‘Air Nostalgia’ will carry 28 passengers on an unforgettable flight and ten day journey to Kangaroo Island and the Flinders Ranges, where experienced local guides will showcase the best of these iconic tourist destinations.
“Our DC-3 Kangaroo Island and Flinders Ranges tour is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for people to experience nostalgic air travel as it was in the 1930s, 40s & 50s,” Australian Air Holidays Manager Cath Winters says.
One of only a few DC-3s in the world available for charter, passengers will be treated to an extremely comfortable scenic flight as we fly between 3,000 and 7,000 feet at a cruisey 150 knots to two of Australia’s most famous tourist destinations.
“This aircraft is legend among the aviation industry. She was one of the largest, best designed, fastest, safest and most luxurious aircraft of her time and after 65 years, the DC3 has only improved with age like a fine brandy. She can easily land on very short, unsealed runways - perfect for the outback.”
The refurbished ‘Air Nostalgia’ features lavish 1950s style livery, has been surveyed by CASA for passenger charter operations and is crewed by two skilled captains and a one hostess. Australian Air Holidays has operated the DC-3 since 2003, taking guests on unique journeys across Australia.
