Tiger Airways Australia commenced services from its new base at Sydney Airport late last week, creating up to 150 new positions, along with ten additional daily return flights around Australia.

3,600 visitor seats will be added to Tiger’s domestic routes across the country, with over 1,400 daily of those operating on the new Sydney - Gold Coast service.

Tiger Airways chief Andrew David said he was delighted to welcome passengers at Sydney Airport travelling aboard the inaugural Sydney - Gold Coast flight, celebrating Tiger’s fierce comeback.

“Today is an opportunity for Tiger to celebrate our accomplishments over the last 12 months whilst, importantly, we also reflect on our responsibilities as a credible and viable operation.”

Three aircraft will operate out of Tiger's second Australian base in Sydney, providing extra capacity on existing services between Sydney and Melbourne, with up to 11 daily return services on the route.

There is also opportunity to expand services on the new routes between Sydney and Gold Coast and Sydney and Brisbane commencing in July and August 2012 respectively.

“Tiger has grown and we are now moving on with a great value service that all Australian travellers should try at least once. The million plus domestic passengers who have flown with us since we resumed operations have provided overwhelming support for the relaunched product,” Mr David said.

Tiger is celebrating the launch of the new Sydney base with a nation-wide sale on fares.
