Pink light bulbs will illuminate the iconic Welcome to Las Vegas sign through October in recognition of national Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Local Clark County officials flipped the switch at 9 am PST on Oct. 4 to start the month-long awareness program.

The Welcome to Las Vegas sign is located on the south end of Las Vegas Boulevard (aka the Strip), and welcomes millions of visitors every year.

It was designed by Betty Willis for Western Sign Company and erected in 1959, and is currently operated by YesCo Sign Company.

The standard light bulbs around the sign are yellow.
