Sydney travel industry to come together for the Future of Tourism

First staging of global future of tourism event in Sydney to look at the responsibilities of travellers, and how tourism can be a force for good

G Adventures , the leading small-group adventure travel tour operator, is calling on the local travel industry to unite for the upcoming ‘Future of Tourism’ event in Sydney on Wednesday, 17 October 2012.

As part of a global program of high level travel industry forecasting discussions, the ‘Future of Tourism’ event will explore how tourism can be a force for growth, change and global good, and how travel companies can change the world for the better.

‘Australians are heading overseas in greater numbers than ever before and pleasingly more people are doing so with a desire to forego the all-inclusive resorts and actually connect with local communities and environments,’ said Bruce Poon Tip, Founder, G Adventures. ‘However there are some key considerations that both tour operators and travellers themselves need to consider when visiting some of the world’s most unique places. It is time that the industry came together to talk about what we want our sector to be like in 20 years and how we are going to get there.’

Following successful ‘Future of Tourism’ events across North America, the UK and Melbourne, the upcoming Sydney event will feature special video insights from Lonely Planet founder Tony Wheeler, as well as discussions about the future of the travel industry and sustainable travel.

As part of the ‘Future of Tourism’ event G Adventures will also be unveiling a number of new products and initiatives.

The ‘Future of Tourism’ speakers include:

Bruce Poon Tip, Founder, G Adventures:  Founder of G Adventures, Bruce has been one of sustainable tourism's most active proponents for more than 20 years. In recognition of his personal commitment to sustainable tourism, Bruce has spoken at the United Nations launch of the Year of Eco Tourism in New York, along with discussing responsible tourism at the World Trade Organization's Ethics in Tourism Conference and at the World Tourism Conference.

Jason Edwards, Photo Journalist, National Geographic: With an image portfolio ranking among the largest of any photographer in the National Geographic Society's long history, Melbourne-based photo journalist Jason Edwards is the face of Pure Photography on National Geographic Channel. This series of natural history vignettes accompanies him on assignment as he chronicles the world's natural wonders through a lens

While there is no official charge for the event, G Adventures is suggesting a small donation which will benefit the Planeterra Foundation. Founded by G Adventures, Planeterra is a non-profit foundation supporting social and environmental solutions in the destinations its travellers visit.
