I tend to find the best travel experiences come when one immerses themselves in the traditions of the country, so when in Ireland, or so the saying goes, I decided to mix Gaelic past with present and enjoy what the city of Dublin has to offer.

Being in the middle of the season for Hurling, one of the most popular local sports, it was only fitting to book in a trial run with Experience Gaelic Games.

Great for groups or pre-arranged FIT travel, the company offers a completely different niche activity incorporating Irish dance, hurling, handball and football taking visitors from the classroom to the field.

Learning about the history of the various sports, the three hour session gives overseas travellers in particular, a different view on all things Irish.

For the more sedentary visitor, a trip to the local pub is usually a good starting point to meet the locals, but add a show and it becomes a great opportunity to heighten the traditional experience.

The Arlington Hotel Temple Bar combines song, dance and dinner in a light-hearted fun show giving visitors a typical Irish experience.

Crooner Daniel and his band takes requests for old and new Irish songs, plays a variety of traditional instruments and encourages audience participation.  A fun night for families, groups or solo travellers looking for a different pub grub experience.

If you fancy pulling your own pint of Guiness, the Arlington also gives guests a quick lesson and a chance to sample your own pint.
