Titanic Belfast, a private and government project, will almost certainly become a 'must see' for any Titanic-er when it opens ahead of the centenary in 2012, but will also place the city, and its outskirts on the map of new and exciting tourism products on offer in the area. Located on the footprints where once stood the world's biggest, most opulent ship, the £90 million, 6-floor state-of-the-art building will offer a truly unique visitor experience when it officially opens in April 2012. The centre tells the story of the Titanic, from her conception in Belfast in the early 1900s right through to the construction of the ship, her voyage and tragic end. Live links, interactive screens and audio tours in six different languages will take visitors back to a bygone era, where Belfast was once a major boom town and construction for many of the world's leading ships. The buildings opposite the centre was home to the people who drew up plans for the Titanic, and a short stroll to Titanic's Dock and Pump House showcases the beating heart of Harland & Wolff's operations where the Titanic sat on the dry dock before being tugged out to sea. Even Belfast's City Hall offers a Titanic spin, with a number of key memorabilia on show at the elaborate building. One of the most enjoyable tours, however, is a gastronomical delight, offered by Rayanne House, a boutique B&B in the outskirts of the city. The "Titanic Dinner", a nine-course degustation created by owner and chef, Colin, recreates the final dinner served at the Ritz for first-class passengers. Ranging from Cream of Barley soup, Poached Salmon with Mousseline Sauce and Filet Mignon with Foie Gras and Truffl to Spiced peaches in chartreuse Jelly, the delicious courses are presented beautifully in a small drawing room overlooking the Lough. It is truly an extravagant experience not to be missed. For more information, visit www.belfastcity.gov.uk/titanic GETTING HERE:
