Amadeus, a leading transaction processor and provider of advanced technology solutions for the global travel and tourism industry, recently celebrated the 10 year anniversary of its Airline Services Centre.

The Airline Services Centre (ASC) was established in Sydney in 2001, when Amadeus’ started developing the “next generation” suite of applications to enable airlines to better manage passenger processes such as reservations and check-in.

The Sydney Airline Service Centre now employs over 150 staff and provides services and support, focused primarily on Amadeus’ airline IT customers in the region, including Qantas and Virgin Australia.

The centre also plays a key role in Amadeus’ “Follow the Sun” global services model. Under this model, responsibility for data centre support and for other key support services is seamlessly transferred between several Amadeus sites, located in different  time zones, over each 24 hour period.  For example, operational support for the Amadeus data centre, located in Erding, Germany, is transferred between Erding, Miami and Sydney, with each site assuming support responsibility during business hours in their respective time zone.

Eberhard Haag, EVP, Global Operations stated, “The “Follow the Sun” model ensures that Amadeus can provide timely support services for its customers and that airlines can benefit from local Amadeus knowledge and presence. Since the creation of the “Follow the Sun” model in 1998, our team in Sydney has provided first-class support to deliver the high quality services our customers expect.”

Senior Amadeus executives from Nice and global headquarters in Madrid joined the team in Sydney for the 10 year anniversary celebration.

At the Airline Service Centre anniversary celebration, Executive Vice President Development, Amadeus, Jean Paul Hamon said: “I would like to thank our customers and our staff for helping us to achieve this significant milestone. The centre in Sydney has grown steadily each year and that demonstrates Amadeus’ commitment to airline IT customers in the region.”
