Boutique designer takes 'taste of Australia' to new heights with limited-edition tees

No longer need Australian travellers – or those visiting from overseas – exhaust their entire shopping time searching for a stylish taste of Australia for friends and family abroad.

Design Revolution Australia now has 11 exclusive designs – and two more on the way – on its limited-edition t-shirts.

"The Australian 'brand' is going all over the world courtesy of DRA. People are showing off their connection with Australia – that they've travelled here or received a gift from an Aussie," says designer Ricardo Gutierrez. "We're represented in a stylish and contemporary fashion."

Inspired by travel and the Australian beach lifestyle, the cool, slim-fitting, soft-combed cotton tees feature the vigorous use of typography and composition, combined with simple graphics.

Ricardo produces a limited number of each design before going back to the drawing board – or "the barbie" as the adopted Aussie calls it.

"You won't find my t-shirts or designs anywhere else, and each design is a limited-edition. Designs are coming off my barbie, freshly cooked, on a regular basis.

"There are nice t-shirts representing Australia out there. The problem is that everyone has them. Design Revolution Australia designs are not mass-produced. This, plus the fact many are sent overseas, guarantees exclusivity."

When Ricardo moved to Australia from Columbia in 1999, he struggled to find stylish gifts that were uniquely Australian to take home to family and friends. It sparked his 'designrevolution'.

Priced at $29, DRA tees provide designer-style Aussie flavour – without the price-tag.

The designs come in a variety of colours and sizes, and include a surf safari theme; an abstract Sydney Opera House; and a unique combination of Melbourne's laneways, cafes, pubs, art galleries, graffiti and Federation Square – all subtly and stylishly represented on the one t-shirt. Each design comes with its own narrative.
