The ‘Official DJ’ for Carnival’s ‘Fun Ship 2.0’ initiative took some time out from DJ’ing for Jamie Foxx and the Miami Heat to share his travel stories with e-Travel Blackboard.

e-Travel Blackboard: Thanks for taking time out of your hectic schedule to chat with us today and happy Thanksgiving!

DJ Irie: You’re welcome, it’s great to finally touch base off Twitter!

e-Travel Blackboard: Have you done much cruising over the years?

DJ Irie: I haven’t done a whole lot over the years, well what I would say is a whole lot because I know a lot of people who have done more, but I’ve done my fair share! I’d say that I’ve probably taken in total maybe 12 cruises in my lifetime, I travelled quite a bit with my parents as a kid growing up in Miami.

There’s a lot of cruising going on around here in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. I absolutely adored growing up here and am still living here now.

e-Travel Blackboard: What is your favourite destination to cruise to?

DJ Irie: I’m a little biased because my family is from Jamaica and I love heading back there, but I also love St Maarten, you’ve gotta put that on your list of places to visit!

e-Travel Blackboard: What is it about St Maarten that you love so much?

Where else can you go that’s a hop skip and jump away (well from Miami!) and really experience two different cultures on one island?

I’ve been there numerous times and it’s so cool! The experience you have on the beach side with the parties and then on the French side you feel like you’re in a whole different place!

The little French cafes and bistros and the harbours are awesome! I really enjoy it there.

e-Travel Blackboard: Have you done much travelling outside of the USA?

DJ Irie: Well I’m going to cruise the Mediterranean next summer and I’m really looking forward to that.

I’ll try and work a bit but will fit in a bit of pleasure. I’ll go for two weeks and will probably go on two different vessels.

We’ll take our gear with us and we’ll kind of do unannounced guest spots, you know, invade the parties and take over!

e-Travel Blackboard: Where would be your favourite place to travel in the world?

DJ Irie: I really enjoyed Singapore! I went to Singapore recently and absolutely loved it! It was great and is right up there on my list!

e-Travel Blackboard: Where would you recommend our readers visit when in Singapore?

Firstly you have to visit Marina Bay Sands. That place is just incredible and if you’re not staying, at least visit!

When I have to go there I stay there which was cool!

The sky lounge and the sky deck they have there has spectacular views!

I’ve been to some amazing hotels around the world and, by far, that was the most amazing hotel I’ve ever seen!

Hands down!

Not only is the hotel amazing, but they have the shopping plaza there and, literally, if you’re just shopping you’re asking for it! Every store you can imagine is under one roof...you name it, it’s there.

e-Travel Blackboard: What was the nightlife like?

DJ Irie: The nightlife was amazing! It’s kind of hard to go wrong over there!

e-Travel Blackboard: I haven’t spent too much time in Singapore apart from as a stopover so it sounds amazing!

DJ Irie: Go back and visit Marina Bay Sands. There’s a beach party as well over there on Sentosa with great food and great drinks. You just have to go!
