Tasmania, hottest in 2012 travel

Tuesday, 10 January 2012

Spreading across the global travel radar, Tasmania is pegged to be one of the hottest holiday destinations worldwide during the year.

Drawn to its under-the-radar feel, upcoming art scene and pristine nature, the state located below the main Australian island is expected to draw a large number of visitors from across the world, according to research compiled by guidebook producers, Mr & Mrs Smith.

Meanwhile London is also expected to win gold in travel this year with the 2012 Olympics playing its role in drawing travellers into the city, as Sri Lanka’s beaches and temples score international appeal from experience-seekers in 2012.

Also making the hottest six destinations this year is Laos’ Luang Prabang for its off the beat track as well as Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Fiji’s offshore islands.

According Mr & Mrs Smith research, as well as flocking to undiscovered destinations, travellers are also expecting the travel industry to produce ‘more bang for a buck’.

With the modern, cash savvy traveller making way across the globe, the guidebook company explained extra value expectations will become the key driver for holidaymakers.

“It’s not about luxe for less, as such, more about seeking quality value-adds at all price points, and spending smarter, with resort’s touting ever-more appealing offers from free experiences to extra nights, half-board stays, gratis breakfasts, transfers and spa treats,” research read.
