Copa Airlines Begins New Nonstop Service Between Las Vegas And Panama

Wednesday, 4 July 2012
  • The new flight represents the first nonstop service between Las Vegas and Central and South America.
  • Las Vegas is Copa Airlines’ seventh U.S. destination. By the end of July 2012, Copa Holdings (Copa Airlines and Copa Colombia) will offer service to 64 destinations in 29 countries on the American continent.

Copa Airlines, subsidiary of Copa Holdings, S.A. {NYSE: CPA}, has begun nonstop service five times weekly between Las Vegas and Copa’s Hub of the Americas at Tocumen International Airport in Panama, Republic of Panama, with connecting service throughout Latin America.

Las Vegas is Copa Airlines’ seventh U.S. destination and one of five new destinations the airline – the fastest-growing in Latin America – has launched throughout the Americas in 2012.

“As the only nonstop Las Vegas-to-Panama service, Copa’s new flight reduces travel time by several hours,” said Dan Gunn, Senior Vice President of Operations, Copa Airlines. “This service not only connects two major business and tourist destinations, Las Vegas and Panama, but also will offer the fastest and most direct way to reach nine cities in Colombia, seven in Brazil, three in Venezuela, and two in Ecuador and many other destinations in Latin America.”

The flight departs McCarran International Airport’s new Terminal 3 in Las Vegas on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 5:23 a.m., arriving at Copa’s Hub of the Americas in Tocumen International Airport in Panama at 2:22 p.m. The return flight will depart Panama on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 9:26 a.m., arriving in Las Vegas at 2:02 p.m. Copa is operating a Boeing “Next-Generation” 737-800 aircraft on the flight, with seating for 16 passengers in Business Class and 144 in the main cabin.

“Our new partnership with Copa Airlines creates a travel gateway connecting Las Vegas to more than 50 Latin American cities,” said Cathy Tull, senior vice president of marketing for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “Increasing our accessibility from new and emerging markets will introduce Las Vegas to millions of potential new visitors and help us achieve our goal of 30 percent international visitation over the next decade.”

From Copa’s Hub of the Americas in Panama, passengers can make convenient connections to destinations throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Copa offers more flights to more international destinations within Latin America than any other airline from any other hub in the region.

“We’re excited for Copa Airlines to provide service to the Las Vegas market. Its presence will allow us to finally welcome passengers directly from Central and South America, regions from which we have historically received travelers only after they first made multiple transfers,” said Randall H.

Walker, Clark County Director of Aviation. “We can’t think of a better way to welcome Copa’s inaugural flight to McCarran International Airport than holding a fiesta for Copa on the first day of operations at our new Terminal 3.” Copa’s on-board service includes complimentary meals and beverages, including wines and spirits; a 12-channel audio-visual entertainment system in English, Spanish and Portuguese, with new movies monthly and complimentary headsets. Flight attendants are bilingual.

The airline operates one of the youngest and most modern fleets in the industry and its on-time performance above 90 percent is among the best worldwide. Copa Airlines joined Star Alliance, the world’s largest global alliance, in June 2012.
Copa will begin service between Panama and a total of five destinations in June and July: Recife, Brazil; Guanacaste, Costa Rica; Las Vegas, Nevada; Curacao, Netherland Antilles and Iquitos, Peru, bringing Copa’s total number of destinations served from its leading Hub of the Americas to 64.

From the U.S., Copa Airlines also offers nonstop service to Panama from Miami, New York City (JFK), Los Angeles (LAX), Washington, D.C. (Dulles), Orlando and Chicago (O’Hare).
