Hurtigruten expedition ship on the Trans-Atlantic crossing

Thursday, 5 July 2012

MS Fram

Travel lovers can look forward to an out-of-the-ordinary experience in October 2012, as well as in spring and autumn 2013. Expedition ship MS Fram will be starting on its voyage to the Antarctic and picking up guests on the transatlantic passage from Las Palmas to Buenos Aires. In spring 2013 guests are travelling the opposite way from Buenos Aires to Las Palmas.

After an eventful season in the Arctic (resp. Antarctic), when the MS Fram turns its prow across the Atlantic and heads for South America (resp. Europe), a special time begins for ship and crew: uniforms are cast aside to be replaced by everyday clothes, the pace of work slows down, and the atmosphere becomes informal and relaxed. The crew tidies up the ship, gets it ready for the new season and carries out basic maintenance whilst still naturally caring for the guests enjoying this transatlantic voyage, just as professionally and attentively as on any other cruise. First Mate Renato Cruz sums up the atmosphere on board: "The Trans-Atlantic crossing brings out the true spirit of cruising."

Compared to other Hurtigruten voyages, there are far fewer guests on board – and that alone makes the Atlantic crossing unforgettable. Guests spend a lot of time on deck, enjoying the sun or watching the ocean as it stretches from horizon to horizon. Finally, there is the time to start on the novels you always wanted to read, to get out your brushes and watercolours or embark on some other long-planned hobby. Sauna, whirlpool and fitness room are at your disposal for bodily well-being. And there's no shortage of amusement during the day or evening, as guests and crew join together to create their own entertainment. So, for instance, King Neptune is on hand to celebrate crossing the line, the MS Fram chef sets up his legendary spontaneous barbecue on Deck 7, or the ship transforms into a stadium for the Olympic Games.
