One of the first male flight attendants for United Airlines, Ron Akana will retire after 63 years with the airline.

At 83 years old, Mr Akana landed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest flight attendant for any US carrier.

The long serving flight attendant recently finished his career with a flight from Denver to Kauai in his home state of Hawaii, according to the Star-Advertiser.

Passengers aboard Mr Akana's final flight wrote him well-wishes after an announcement marking his longevity.

Mr Akana plans to spend his retirement travelling.
