Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa has been honoured with the internationally recognised 2012 Condé Nast Traveler World Savers Award for the second consecutive year, for its pioneering work and commitment to wildlife conservation.

Presented at the CondéNast Traveler Visionaries Awards Gala in New York, the World Savers Awards recognises travel companies from around the world for their leadership in social responsibility. Attended by A-list luminaries and dignitaries, guests included Hillary Clinton, Michael Bloomberg, Susan Sarandon, Ai Weiwei, and Olivia Wilde.

“Condé Nast Traveler is one of the most respected and influential publications in travel. As the only Australian tourism product to receive this award for the second consecutive year and among such esteemed company is a truly remarkable honour,” said Joost Heymeijer, General Manager, Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa. 

A scenic three-hour drive from Sydney, Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa is nestled between two of Australia’s most prominent national parks and borders the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. The resort itself occupies just two per cent of the 4,000 acre-property, and combines the expectations of the high-end traveller with a commitment to broader social, ecological and environmental sustainability. It is the only experience of its kind in Australia.

“At the heart of our business is our ongoing commitment to conservation. From opening we have outperformed expectations to deliver an enriching experience without compromising our surroundings,” continued Mr Heymeijer.

“We were the first hotel in the world to achieve carbon neutral certification and we’ve maintained this status for three years in a row. We believe that under these guiding principles we have created a unique and world-class proposition.

“It is encouraging to see there are more of our peers joining ranks in taking more socially responsible actions. Not only are these contributions protecting our iconic natural landscapes, it is proving increasingly popular amongst travellers.

“Securing a future for many of the region’s indigenous and endangered species, which were under critical pressure from introduced flora and feral predators, remains part of our continued commitment to the property and our guest’s experience,” concluded Mr Heymeijer.

To date, over 200,000 indigenous trees have been planted in wildlife corridors and along creek banks at Wolgan Valley. The resort also incorporates many Ecologically Sustainable Design principles and resource-saving technologies, ranging from rainwater collection, full recycling of all domestic water, heat exchange technology to reduce electricity consumption and the use of solar panels for all hot water systems.

Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa was also recently honoured with Best Environmental Initiative at the 2012 Australian Hotels Association (AHA) National Awards for Excellence, and acclaimed Best Regional Hotel/Resort, Australian Lodge and Environmental Program at the 2012 HM Awards for Hotel and Accommodation Excellence.
