The Northern Territory’s Orchid Airways is chartering flights and hiring aircraft because, “the quickest way to go broke is buying your own planes”, according to Wild Orchid chief executive Dave Fleming.

Mr Fleming said his business approach makes far greater fiscal sense, according to a report in NTNews.com.

Orchid Airways plan to operate 20 daytime flights to Cebu, Philippines each year.

The flights will only run during peak periods including school holidays, Easter and Christmas.

Orchid’s limited services will target the thousands of Filipino residents in the Northern Territory.

“We’ll be cheaper, faster and more comfortable than other airlines,” Mr Fleming said.
