The results are in and the most expensive hotel in the United States is located in … Montana. That's according to the latest survey conducted by Luxury-Hotels.com. The survey specifically compared luxury hotels in the United States for the period spanning June through September 2012.

With an average price tag of $2279 per night for a standard double room, The Ranch at Rock Creek, located close to the historic mining town of Philipsburg, easily secured the survey’s most expensive slot. Taking the second-place spot was the Point Resort, situated within the boundaries of New York’s Adirondack Park. An average overnight rate of $1848 positioned this hideaway hotel at number two.

In New York City, a destination typically associated with high prices, the most expensive hotel ranked only 14 on the list. That honor went to the Mandarin Oriental. The average double room there this past summer went for $947 per night.
