Brisbane’s Emporium Hotel celebrates EarthCheck Silver Certification

It took three years to earn and now Brisbane’s critically acclaimed Emporium Hotel has announced it has achieved Silver Certification with EarthCheck.

This positions the hotel as a leader in the unique worldwide group of sustainable tourism operators that are Certified to the internationally recognised EarthCheck Company Standard with the exclusive EarthCheckTM science inside.

Emporium Hotel General Manager Peter Savoff said, “This is one of the most important achievements for both our team, and the hotel’s guests. We now have a valuable management and reporting tool for use in advancing both environmental and business performance, allowing us to monitor sustainable work practices and achieve cost reductions within EarthCheck’s important parameters,”

The hotel’s achievement through the certification process were remarkable: Energy Consumption was measured at 28.5% better than the Baseline level (37.0 kg CO2-e / Guest Night); Potable Water Consumption was 32.8% better than the Best Practice level (174.6 L / Guest Night); Water Savings rating achieved was 6.4 Points better than the Best Practice level; Waste Sent to Landfill was 18.2% better than the Best Practice level (9.0 L / Guest Night) and Community Commitment was 30% above the baseline level. Emporium Hotel is one of the few operators in Brisbane with Silver Certification and a commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.

Emporium Hotel was recently crowned – for the fourth time – Best Boutique Hotel in Australia, at the prestigious Hospitality Management (HM) Awards for Excellence and also won Best Deluxe Hotel, 5 Star+ 2012 Queensland Hotels Association Awards for Excellence.
