Barry Baillie receives Lifetime Contribution Award

Thursday, 29 November 2012

The best in tourism were recognised last Thursday night, 22 November, at the 2012 NSW Tourism Awards. The night celebrated tourism operators and individuals over 31 categories of festivals and events, accommodation, adventure tourism and indigenous tourism.

The 2012 NSW Tourism Awards, managed by the Tourism Industry Council of NSW, awarded its first ever Lifetime Contribution Award as part of this year’s event.  The accolade went to the late Barry Baillie (1945- 2012), former CEO of the Caravan, Camping and Touring Industry Association and Manufactured Housing Industry Association of NSW (CCIA) in honour of his commitment to the caravan and camping industry and the broader tourism market.

The Award was presented to CCIA President, Theo Whitmont and Brock Baillie, Barry’s son, by the Hon. George Souris, Minister for Arts and Tourism, Major Events, Hospitality and Racing.

On accepting the Award, Theo reiterated Barry’s passion for the tourism industry throughout NSW and nationally.

“During his ten years as CEO of the CCIA Barry contributed to the tourism industry at the highest of professional levels. He dedicated countless hours of his personal time to the caravan and camping industry to ensure that it remained at the forefront of domestic tourism,” said Theo.

Brock Baillie thanked the crowd of 700 for their support and for recognising his father for the esteemed award.

“Whilst Dad can’t be here to accept this award I know he greatly appreciates the recognition especially as it comes from an industry he held so close to his heart.”

As a testament to Barry’s tireless efforts the CCIA also won a silver award for the 2012 NSW Caravan, Camping, RV and Holiday Supershow in the Best Festival and Event category.

Whilst Barry’s passion for the tourism industry will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known and worked with him, his efforts will be continued by the CCIA to ensure that the caravan and camping industry remains the leader is domestic tourism that it is today.
