Jetstar Hong Kong is confident the government will approve the joint venture between the Jetstar Group and China Eastern Airlines, enabling the carrier to commence operations in 2013.

Jetstar Group chief executive Jayne Hrdlicka said approval from the Hong Kong government would allow the carrier to build on market opportunities that exist in the area and cater to underlying aviation demand.

Ms Hrdlicka believes consumers have been paying too much for air travel for far too long.

Jetstar Hong Kong will commence operations next year, growing 1000 jobs for the greater Hong Kong area and delivering US$1 billion to Hong Kong’s annual economy by 2015.

Ms Hrdlicka expects the new carrier to bring new travellers to the market and does not believe the introduction of Jetstar Hong Kong will in any way diminish opportunities for full service carriers.
