Australia will close 2012 on a business events high, according to the sector’s leaders, with 14 percent more convention and conference arrivals landing down under, compared to last year. Latest figures revealed during the September quarter alone there was a 17 percent increase in convention and conference arrivals compared to the same quarter year-on-year. Business Events Australia head Penny Lion said latest figures reflect a productive year produced by a “highly successful” consumer campaign and the launch of a new website for international event planners. The group also ran “comprehensive” trade development this year, with 147 international buyers and ten international business media experiencing Australia first hand. According to the group, in 2013 there will be a focus on striving towards the industry’s goal to double overnight expenditure generated by business events to AU$16 billion annually by 2020. |
