Free Sessions and Green Fees for Guests of Jewel Runaway Bay Beach & Golf Resort
Located on Jamaica’s gorgeous North Coast, Runaway Bay Golf Club and its 72-par, 18-hole championship course, welcomes both beginners and experienced golfers to the only Golf Academy on the island. This classic course was designed by British Major John Harris in 1960 and features long rolling fairways, with large, flat greens protected by grassy mounds and challenging sand bunkers. It’s hosted many high-profile events including the Ryder Cup match between the United Kingdom and the West Indies, the Jamaica Open, the Brinks (JA) Classic, the Heineken World Cup Qualifier, CNBC Nations Cup and numerous JGA Qualifiers.
The Runaway Bay Golf Club’s convenient location adjacent to the all-inclusive, 266-room Jewel Runaway Bay Beach & Golf Resort makes for the perfect golf getaway. Guests of the resort can book sessions at the Golf Academy at no extra cost and green fees are complimentary as well.
The Academy’s PGA certified instructors provide experienced pros with tips to brush up on their game and everything a novice player needs to know before they tee off. Beginners receive an introduction to golf theory and will then be taken straight onto the course for practical application. Weekly sessions cover all aspects of the game using private lessons, on-course instruction, course management skills, as well as course etiquette. Additionally, the Academy has visiting teaching professionals meeting CPGA or PGA qualifications year-round.
The Academy offers the following comprehensive beginner sessions, so they’ll be swinging like a pro in no time!
Session 1: Provides an introduction to golf including rules, terms, golf history, warm up, full swing motion (without a club) and a focus on stance and posture.
Session 2: Provides an introduction of etiquette, grip, setup, weight distribution, an introduction of full swing with a club and correct techniques for pitching.
Session 3: Students will learn to demonstrate the correct techniques for putting.
Session 4: Provides shot and swing correction on the range such as correcting the ball being sent too high or not lifting the ball.
After a day on the course, players can relax in style at The Clubhouse’s elegant lobby or stop for a drink and a bite to eat at the open-air pavilion restaurant and bar. Clubhouse tours are 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Last tee time for 18 holes is 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm for nine holes. Tee off times are not required. (Food and drinks at The Club House are not part of the all-inclusive package at Jewel Runaway Bay Resort).
