Potential delays as Virgin Australia rolls out SabreSonic

Passengers have been warned to arrive at the airport earlier than usual to avoid.

Travellers heading out on Virgin Australia this weekend could be facing delays, as the airline changes over to a new check-in system.

As the carrier rolls out the SabreSonic ticketing system to up to 60 airports, passengers have been warned to arrive at the airport earlier than usual, News.com.au reported.

Domestic travellers are being advised to be at the airport an hour before their flight instead of 30 minutes, while international flyers are being urged to arrive at check-in three hours ahead instead of the usual two.

Although the carrier has assured its staff have been trained in the new system, a spokesperson said there still may be delays, with online check-in not available on the Sunday and potential disruptions caused by possible external factors, including bad weather.

In November last year, the carrier’s chief executive John Borghetti said after the carrier migrates over to the SabreSonic system, agents should be able to book Virgin flights with “greater ease and confidence”.
