Emirates looking to extend Qantas agreement

Emirates is reportedly looking to include the Pacific Ocean in its alliance with Qantas, in order to fly its passengers around the world on the A380.

The agreement currently covers codeshares on flights from Dubai to Europe as well as flights across the trans-Tasman, however, Emirates says additional Pacific Ocean flights would allow the carrier’s passengers to fly Qantas’ A380s into Los Angeles, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

“If the timing is right and the two aircraft meet, with Qantas and Emirates you could go around the world with A380s,” Emirates president Tim Clark said.

“I’m sure we could do trans-Pacific business on Qantas metal as part of this overall deal.”

Mr Clark added he would only push for the extension into the Pacific if the Qantas team supports the idea.

The Qantas and Emirates alliance recently received a tentative nod from Australia regulators and a final decision is expected by March this year.
