Email DistributionAn opportunity arises on 16th February for both horse racing fans and “St Valentine’s Day phobic” lovers to unwind at the 2006 West End Kangaroo Island Cup Carnival.

The annual event will be held on the banks of the Cygnet River in Kangaroo Island from February 16-18.

“It (the Carnival) has really become an icon racing and party event where a group of friends might book a holiday house and enjoy the street party on the Friday night and the KI Cup on the Saturday,” National Sales and Marketing Manager for Kangaroo Island SeaLink, Julie-Anne Briscoe said.

On the first day (16th February) a casual ‘warm-up’ race meeting sets to splash guests with some early racing spirit.

The Ozone Seafront Hotel Twilight Street Party on the second evening will make you shake with the free live music from Adelaide party band ‘Planet Square’.

Prepare yourself for the West End Kangaroo Island Cup Race Day on the final day which features a range of fashions, food, wine and entertainment.

Ms Briscoe said coach touring and self-drive packages are available for tourists who have never visited the Island before.

Special race-day trackside marquee luncheon packages are priced from $89 per person. The package includes entry to the racetrack, a complimentary race-book and a four-course lunch.

First held 120 years ago when local Kangaroo Island farmers raced their horses for a wager, today the Carnival maintains the traditions and becomes one of the main social gatherings of the year.
