The mountain resort town of Jackson, Wyoming, announced this week that a number of exciting cultural events would be showcased in town this northern summer.

One of the most anticipated art-shows slated for this summer is the Silent Spring Exhibit featuring Andy Warhol’s Endangered Species and Vanishing Animals. The exhibit will be held from June 16 through September 24, 2006 at the National Museum of Wildlife Art, located opposite the National Elk Refuge in Jackson.

On loan from the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the exhibition will include images of an elephant, rhinoceros, butterfly, eagle and other animals Warhol celebrated in art. Also on display throughout the summer season is Thomas Moran’s Yellowstone: Watercolors from the Hayden Expedition from May 27 – September 24, 2006.  The Museum is opened daily.

The Grand Teton Music Festival has dazzled visitors each summer for the past 40 years with their superb symphony music.  Described as “one of the world’s greatest orchestras” the premier summer classical music festival comprise leading professional orchestral musicians from around the country.

Offering chamber music and full symphony concerts featuring renowned guest soloists and conductors, the summer concerts will begin in June to August at 8 p.m. from Tuesday through to Saturday. The concerts will also be held in the 740-seat Walk Festival Hall, which is acclaimed for its intimacy and superb acoustics. Walk Festival Hall is located in Teton Village, just 12 miles northwest of the town of Jackson. The Resort offers a full range of dining and lodging options before and after each concert. The most celebrated event, Music In The Hole, will take place on July 4, 2006 – American Independence Day.

For Wild West aficionados Jackson’s Town Square will celebrate its 50th year of playing host to a gun-toting shootout in a series of ‘frontier justice’ re-enactments. The Jackson Hole Shootout takes place Monday-Saturday at 6:15 p.m. on the Town Square Memorial Day in May through Labour Day in September and entry is free.  The surly gang members will also be making special appearances at a number of Jackson events throughout the year including Elk Fest on May 20-21, Old West Days on May 27-28, Music in the Hole and the 4th July Parade on July 4, as well as the Last Shootout on September 4.
