Events at Fairmont Golf Resorts
The Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic, the first ever event outside the USA or Canada for the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), will take place Oct. 4-8, 2007 at El Camaleon at Fairmont Mayakoba. More than 160 former AJGA players are currently on the PGA and LPGA tours, some of whom may be playing in The Mayakoba Golf Classic, February 18-24, 2008. Golf history was made in February 2007 when the PGA TOUR conducted its first regular-season, official-money event in México at the inaugural Mayakoba Golf Classic in the Riviera Maya, and 144 PGA Tour professionals will return in 2008.
In the ADT Golf Skills Challenge, November 4-6, 2007 at The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club, PGA Tour players and celebrity challengers are tested through a series of skills: long drive, greenside bunker, putting, long iron, trouble shot, pitch shot, fairway bunker, short iron and chip shot. Each player has three shots per skill with only their best counting toward the prize money attached to each one. Past participants include Greg Norman, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Vijay Singh, Jim Furyk, David Duval and Annika Sorenstam. Past celebrity participants include Mark McGwire, Roger Clemens, John Elway, Dan Marino and Jerry Rice.
January 28 - February 3, 2008, The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess proudly hosts pro golfers and their fans to the “Greatest Show on Grass,” the annual FBR Open held at the adjacent Tournament Players Club of Scottsdale’s Stadium Course. The event brings not only some of the world’s greatest golfers to Scottsdale, but also the largest galleries on the PGA tour. With more than 160,000 spectators attending on its busiest days - and more than half a million for tournament week - there’s a party atmosphere unlike any other in golf, which is highlighted by the nightly live entertainment venue “The Bird’s Nest.” In addition to spectacular golf and plenty of fun, the FBR Open over the years has raised more than $46 million for local charities.
