The organisation responsible for Wellington’s most impressive portfolio of venues – Positively Wellington Venues – will extend its offering for 2013 when it takes over management of the gallery function space at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts. The unique function space – on Wellington’s Queen’s Wharf – is housed within the stunning waterfront Academy building and has already hosted events including information seminars for the BT Round the World Yacht Race and pre-show cocktails for World of Wearable Arts. When coinciding with one of the Academy’s world-class exhibitions, guests are surrounded by up to 500 works by some of New Zealand’s leading artists. “This is an exceptional function space that will compliment our already significant venue presence on Wellington’s waterfront,” says PWV CEO Glenys Coughlan. “We’re really excited to add such a unique venue to our portfolio as we continue offering new and inspiring function spaces for our clients.” The agreement was signed this week and the venue space will be available through PWV in the new year. Academy Director, Dr Warren Feeney, says the new agreement establishes a “unique opportunity”. “It brings together the Academy's exhibition programme and events opportunities from PWV, an association perfectly suited to Wellington's reputation as a centre for urban culture and one that we hope to build on by bringing our ability to mount great exhibitions across some of PWV’s other venues.”
