Last week saw much of the Tourism New Zealand team and NZ Inc agencies support the Wellington World Premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
With all eyes on New Zealand, and around 100 international media in the country, everyone got involved and worked hard to showcase the best of New Zealand – our expertise and innovation in screen production, and premium food and wine.
And everyone really did get on board – on the eve of the premiere Auckland Airport unveiled a 23 metre lenticular display blending the fantasy of Middle-earth with the reality of New Zealand for those arriving, and over on TVNZ’s Breakfast, Tamati Coffey transformed into an Elf to present the long range summer forecast. Having organised the weather feature, Tourism New Zealand distributed the footage to all visiting broadcast media. The UK’s Daily Mail was particularly impressed.
As well as the red carpet event, the action-packed premiere itinerary included iconic tourism experiences, interviews with cast, behind-the-scenes with the creative film-makers and artists at Weta as well as legendary New Zealand hospitality.
Before and after the premiere, Tourism New Zealand hosted a number of media famils in the Wairarapa, Nelson, Waikato and Rotorua regions, to demonstrate how easy it is for people to come to New Zealand, see Middle-earth first-hand and experience all the country has to offer.
The week wrapped up with the official opening of the Green Dragon Inn at Hobbiton – with attendees and international media enjoying a final taste of 100% Middle-earth, 100% Pure New Zealand.
The anticipated media coverage that will showcase New Zealand, will reach millions of potential travellers and business people globally. Don’t forget to check out some of the international media coverage received so far in The Hobbit Trilogy section of the website.
Thanks, The team at Tourism New Zealand
