The prolonged wait for the opening of Greece’s New Acropolis Museum is almost over with the museum officially opening its doors this Saturday, 20th June after it’s much awaited and anticipated arrival. Making headlines worldwide, including the New York Times, BBC news, Times Online, UK Guardian, The Sydney Morning Herald, and Colombia News, the museum is predicted to triple tourist arrivals to Greece in the years to come. The official inauguration on June 20 will take place in the presence of the President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias, with many heads of state and members of the government among the guests- in addition to ministers, the presidents of the IOC and UNESCO, former presidents of Greece, representatives of the Melina Mercouri Foundation, publishers and TV station owners. The inauguration ceremony will be broadcast on TV throughout the world and also live on the internet, on the Museum's website at www.theacropolismuseum.gr The inauguration ceremony will be accompanied by a week of events in the city of Athens, which will be suitably decorated and spruced up for the big day. During the first three days after the official opening of the museum – Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday (June 21, 22 and 23), the visitors will be able to buy tickets only online because the box offices will be closed.
