Check-in married, depart divorced

Thursday, 6 September 2012

Tailoring vacation divorce packages for married partners, a new service being offered by Dutch hotels is giving a whole new meaning to taking a break from it all.

The aptly named Divorce Hotel coordinates luxury accommodation packages (separate rooms, of course) for the divorce-bound, enabling couples to 'check out' of their marriages quickly and comfortably, ABC News reported.

"[Couples] arrive on Friday and we give them everything they need to leave on Sunday with divorce papers," Divorce Hotel general manager Jim Halfens said.

With plans to bring the service to the United States, where half of all marriages end in divorce, the new service is proving popular with Americans.

Offering lawyers, psychologists, mediators and even a glass of champagne to visitors, Divorce Hotel currently works with six luxury Dutch hotels, the service cost varying according to the complexity of a couple's assets.

The popularity of the service just goes to show that every cloud does have a silver lining (and a mini bar).
