Explora Puritama Hotsprings Reopens In The Atacama Desert

Friday, 30 November 2012

CHILEAN eco-adventure operator explora has just completed 10 months of renovation work on its Puritama Hot Springs property near San Pedro in the Atacama Desert.

Located at more than 3.000 metres above sea level, the field consists of eight thermal pools with waters varying in temperature from 32º C to 34 ºC providing therapeutic and relaxing properties.

Established in a brook, where the Puritama River flows, the property was designed by explora in harmony with the surroundings, with wooden walkways connecting the eight pools in the middle of the driest desert in the world.

Renovations include new waterfalls and pools with different depths and a main pool -for the exclusive use of explora travellers. There are also new access walkways and new dressing rooms, bathrooms, disabled facilities and a new terrace with picnic tables and lockers.

Puritama Thermal Field is part of Puritama Reserve, a private area to protect the local wildlife, and has belonged to explora since 1991. A significant portion of the income generated in this place, goes directly to the Atacameño Community through the Atacameño Council.
