Get your website found online

A great looking website isn’t so great if no one visits it. So how do you get found online?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an absolute must-have to any website marketing strategy, but it takes hard work and consistency when aiming for Page 1 ranking. These tips will help get you on your way to increasing your organic (non-paid) search engine rankings.

Get inbound links to your website
Building inbound links to your website is about getting other qualitywebsites to link back to your website. Search engines call this authority or “link juice.” The more inbound links you have, the more important your website must be in Google's eyes, thus the higher you will rank.

On-page Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
On-page SEO refers to placing your most important keywords within the content elements of your webpages. This includes using headlines, sub-headlines, body of the content, image tags, webpage links etc.

For example, you can place specific keywords in your headline and sub-line or within the URL name, include keywords in the body content, include keywords in the filename of images and in the title and meta tags.

Include a XML Sitemap
An XML sitemap is used to help search engine spiders sift through your webpages more efficiently. It is simply an .xml file containing a listing of all your pages and when they were updated.

Adding an XML sitemap is a component that is commonly overlooked, while it may not be the deciding factor in improving your Search Engine Optimization, it will certainly help.

Use 301 Redirects

IF you redesign your website and change the page names, or if you change the website domain, it's important to use a method called 301 redirects. This is when you redirect the old webpages to the new webpages. It is important for SEO as it directs the search engine spiders to the new page and you won't lose SEO rankings. It's also ideal for people browsing your website, so they get redirected to the right page instead of receiving a 404 error page message.
