Queensland Music Festival is presenting the cream of Australian talent in How Deep Is Your Love, a spectacular and soulful homage to the Gibb Brothers on July 19 and 20 at Brisbane Riverstage.
QMF Artistic Director James Morrison said How Deep is Your Love is an extraordinary celebration of Australian artists and music. Audiences are in for an unforgettable experience and I can’t wait to hear such an incredible collection of musicians perform their versions of Gibb Brothers classics, backed by one of the best bands assembled in Australia – The Deep Love Orchestra. “Simply bringing this calibre of stars together on the same bill is in itself an historic event.”
How Deep Is Your Love covers four decades of song writing and will feature multiple ARIA winners Christine Anu, Tina Arena, Anthony Callea, Katie Noonan, soul and R&B legend Doug Parkinson, iconic singer songwriter Rick Price, multi-Golden Guitar winner Melinda Schneider, a cappella sensations The Idea of North, Darren Percival (The Voice Australia 2012), Rai Thistlethwayte of Thirsty Merc and the sublime Jazz songstress and The Voice Australia 2013 contender, Emma Pask.
The Deep Love Orchestra, a hand-picked all-star ensemble formed especially for the concerts, will be led by John Foreman (Musical Director, Australian Idol), with original arrangements by John Foreman and Chong Lim (Musical Director, Dancing with the Stars).
Morrison said The Bee Gees’ musical legacy is unparalleled in the history of pop and they are without a doubt Queensland’s biggest musical export. “From their formative years growing up in Redcliffe in the late 50s, the Gibbs went on to pen an astonishing 970 songs selling more than 220 million albums worldwide!”
Genre-defining and genre-defying, the Gibb Brothers changed with the times, embracing a huge variety of musical styles from blue-eyed soul to Psychedelic rock, R&B to disco and pop rock to country blues.
Adaptable and prolific, they wrote chart topping albums for Kenny Rodgers, Diana Ross and Barbra Streisand, and have been covered by artists as diverse as Elvis Presley, Ozzy Osbourne and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
How Deep is Your Love is a signature event of the state wide Queensland Music Festival, which will take place from July 12-28.
How Deep is Your Love is presented by Queensland Music Festival, Brisbane City Council, Network Ten, and The Courier-Mail & The Sunday Mail, with the generous support of ERM Business Energy, Tourism & Events Queensland, Brisbane Marketing, 612 ABC Brisbane, Braithwaite Steiner Pretty and Theme & Variations.
