In a bid to attract more travellers of the Islamic faith, New Zealand tourism leaders have issued a new guide to halal eating in the country. With a 13 percent rise in spending by Islamic tourists expected by 2020, the New Zealand Halal Guide provides travellers with two lists of halal classified restaurants and cafes, the New Zealand Herald reported. Tourism New Zealand general manager, Asia, Tony Everitt said the Islamic market presented “enormous opportunity” for NZ, identifying Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and India as key growth markets. "Tourism New Zealand is committed to further enhancing New Zealand's position as a visitor destination in emerging Halal markets and this guide is about supporting the delivery of a quality visitor experience for travellers once they are here," Mr Everitt said. The guide will be distributed internationally to travel trade as well as consumers and New Zealand Embassies. |
