Virgin unveils Velocity partnership with AMEX

Monday, 19 November 2012

Virgin Australia has signed a new agreement with American Express, to launch the American Express Velocity Escape Card, the airline’s first $0 annual fee credit card.

Announced this morning, members will earn one Velocity Point for every dollar spent on the Card and two points for every dollar spent with Virgin Australia.

Velocity Frequent Flyer general manager Phil Gunter said the airline was “excited” to be offering this option, with no annual or joining fee, to its growing membership network.

“Through our partnership with American Express, we are able to offer a range of cards with unique benefits so our members can find a card that suits their individual needs,” Mr Gunter explained.

The airline said the partnership would also remove annual credit card fees for Australians looking to earn Points for their next flight with Virgin Australia or its alliance partners including Etihad Airways, Delta Air Lines, Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand.

Other benefits for the card include being rewarded with 7,500 bonus Velocity Points when signing up, which is equivalent to a one-way flight from Melbourne to Sydney.
