Creators of taxi booking app, goCatch have defended their product against criticism, claiming there’s nothing “safer” for travellers and locals needing transportation. Launched in 2011, the app connects passengers directly to their taxi driver, by providing bookers with the driver’s name and his/her mobile number prior to pick up. However, since its arrival, taxi industry representatives have questioned the products safety and the lack of regulation surrounding its widespread use. Concerns have also picked up after claims passengers were “going off the radar”. However, goCatch co-founder Andrew Campbell and Ned Moorefield say there’s nothing hazardous about their app and criticism is merely resentment towards their “temerity to create something new and something popular”. "GoCatch provides customers with certainty because they can physically see on their smart phones, where their cab is in real time,” co-creators said. Mr Campbell and Mr Moorefield added that the app also provides services and security systems not in place when booking a cab the “old fashioned way” with a location based data record of every job. “Are we challenging the system and the current monopolies in place? You bet we are." |
