Garuda announces ‘Quantum Leap’ expansion plan

Tuesday, 28 July 2009

Garuda Indonesia announced an aggressive expansion plan last week which will see its fleet grow from 62 planes to 116 over a five year period.

The plans were unveiled during the opening ceremony of Garuda's new four-story building at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

Under the plan named ‘Quantum Leap’, the airline will also increase flights from 1700 per week to 3000, add new routes and create a new logo.

The new logo will feature a larger image of Garuda’s mythical bird symbol and a new shorter dark-grey font on its ‘Garuda Indonesia’ banner according to Jakarta Post.

Over the last five years, we've tried to make improvements and expand this company," said President Director Emirsyah Satar, adding "We've turned our losses into profit."

He said the company was confident it would make Rp 3.7 trillion (US$365 million) in profits by 2014 as it had posted a Rp 669 billion profit in 2008.

"Along with the improvement of Garuda's external and internal conditions, the company will prudently continue the development program”
