Repeat travellers are increasingly looking for the more in-depth and off the beaten track experiences, according to Australia’s leading Asia travel specialist, Travel Indochina.
Journeys that offer a more intense focus on activities or a unique glimpse of seldom visited places, including Bhutan and Mongolia, are proving popular.
Travel Indochina Managing Director, Paul Hole, says that this desire for more in-depth experiences lead the company to develop its ‘Specialist Collection’ and ‘Insider Experiences’ program for its small group journeys.
“Our Specialist Collection caters particularly for repeat and more adventurous clients,” says Paul. “Due to the more intense nature of these journeys, we find they appeal to those who have already travelled to a destination and want to explore the country in greater depth.”
“Our Specialist Journey itineraries provide a different perspective. Whether the focus is culinary, cycling, iconic rail journeys or exploratory tours to destinations where tourism is in its infancy, the common denominator is the travellers have a more intimate experience.
“The ‘Insider Experiences’ program, which crosses our entire Small Group Journeys’ stable, also provides unique glimpses of various facets of the rich tapestry of local life in the communities we visit, whether lunch with a family or a group of nuns, the opportunity to see and participate in the work of the charities we support or local markets away from the crowds. These are the special touches that make our journeys more memorable.”
Travel Indochina’s Specialist Collection portfolio includes an 11-day Vietnam Culinary Discovery, with guided tours through local markets, cooking schools and lavish meals at some of the country’s best restaurants, highlighting the regional diversity of the country’s cooking tradition, and a 19-day Cycling Vietnam tour that includes the chance to cycle the spectacular coastal roads between Mui Ne and Vung Tau.
For rail enthusiasts, the 16-day Lhasa to Beijing Express offers the opportunity to experience the ‘roof of the world’ on the Sky Train from Lhasa to Xining and some of the very best of China, starting in Chengdu, heading to Mount Emei, Lhasa, Xining and Xian before culminating in Beijing. The 12-day Spirit of the Himalayas explores the Indian side of the Himalayas in a journey that’s as much about the rich culture as it is about stunning scenery.
