Representatives from the Australian and International Pilots Association have gathered in Canberra to discuss flight restrictions and upholding the limitations found within the Qantas Sales Act.

Recent proposals to impose flight restrictions have the Pilots Association fearing for the positions of more than 200 flight crew, according to The Australian.

“If they operated with the minimum crew everywhere, as per the regulations, they would get more than 200 pilots surplus out of that,” AIPA vice-president Richard Woodward said.

Mr Woodward argued for a Productivity Commission review of international air services to better define the parameters and allowances of an Australian airline.

“It's way out of date and the ... playing field's changed heavily since then.”

The Pilots Association is also concerned with the lifting of ownership regulations, possibly exposing staff to further job cuts and restrictions.

TWU acting national secretary Michael Kaine said Qantas staff were lacking faith in the company’s direction and future.

“Staff confidence with management decisions is at an all-time low, with 82 per cent of staff responding in a recent survey that they believe the company is not heading in the right direction.”

A Qantas spokesperson argued TWU continually demand control of the way in which Qantas is managed and said the airline always offered reasonable pay increases.

Mr Kaine fired back, claiming the results of poor management were beginning to be noticed by other businesses and the general public.
