www.tripinapocket.com was launched in 2012 as one of the first mobile-based itinerary management tools for travel agents. Mark Luckey, MD roomsXML Asia Pac says "We took the punt on creating tripinapocket based on social media presentations delivered to the Australian Travel Agents Cooperative - ATAC - in October 2011. Our research showed that Australian travel agents were missing huge opportunities by not having their own branded marketing presence in the mobile domain." Tripinapocket was developed in conjunction with Extentia Information Technology based in Pune, India. Luckey says "We have a long-term development relationship with Extentia, underpinned by great friendships with the owners Umeed Kothavala and Naazneen Boocha. Part of our development approach with roomsXML is to develop initiatives which support travel agents and give them tools with which improve their ability to compete with groups direct to the public or creating "deals" or "coupon" systems which attempted to bypass travel agents." Extentia and WebSource collaborated early in 2011 to form http://australia.ixtentia.com/ which focuses on developing mobile applications across a range of industries. This in turn gives roomsXML direct access to leading mobile technology development. Clients have included Portmans, nursing agencies as well as creating a greeting card application which can be downloaded from iTunes called "Jolly Talker". "We've had a lot of technology experience across other industries and it was pretty exciting to develop something specifically for travel agents." In this interview, founders Mark Luckey and Umeed Kothavala, as well as project manager Rima Singh, discuss the how and the why of why tripinapocket, mobile devices and social media are important to global travel agents. "At WebSource and roomsXML we are proud of our multicultural links including partners such as Extentia in India as well is other agents in Saudi Arabia and Kiev - is really something to be celebrated as a global business model is of huge benefit to Australian travel agents."
