2012 & 2011 Kapalua Wine & Food Festival: “Best of the Fest”
The Kapalua Wine & Food Festival is one of the oldest festivals of its kind celebrating the finest in food and wine. This yearly celebration embraces all things Hawaiian, notably the culinary bounty on Maui. For two consecutive years, Japengo has been recognised as “Best of the Fest” receiving silver in 2012 and gold in 2011. This year, Japengo received “Best of the Fest” silver, for its Kapalua dish featuring misoyaki marinated Kona kampachi with bubu arare and young coconut salad. Last year, Japengo received “Best of the Fest” gold for its hamachi and watermelon cocktail with Emperor’s ponzu, abalone, tomato water and tobiko.

2012 Maui No Ka Oi Magazine Aipono Awards
In their 10th year, the Maui No Ka Oi Magazine’s Aipono Awards honour culinary excellence among Maui’s top restaurants and chefs. This year’s event brought a record-breaking 340 attendees to celebrate the honourees. Japengo’s distinguished Pacific Rim cuisine and sushi lounge garnered the restaurant two awards: “Best New Restaurant” silver and “Best Sushi” silver.

2012 Honolulu Magazine Hale Aina Awards
The 2012 Hale Aina Awards celebrate Hawaii’s best restaurants. The awards are voted on by the discerning readers of Honolulu Magazine, and include categories such as “Best New Restaurant,” “Best Service,” “Best Value,” and more. In January 2012, Japengo was a “Best New Restaurant” finalist.

Opentable.com Diner’s Choice Awards
Voted on by the vast readership of Opentable.com, Japengo received a Diner’s Choice Award for “Best Outdoor Dining” and “Best Seafood.” Diner’s reviewed the restaurant as having “incredible ambiance,” and sushi that “melted in your mouth – satisfying and fulfilling.”
