Tauck, one of the world’s top luxury travel companies, announced today that it would be bringing travellers to the Hartford area next year on a newly redesigned tour of New England.  Tauck made the announcement jointly with Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy and filmmaker Ken Burns at the Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford, which will be featured on the new itinerary.  

When it officially begins operating next spring, Tauck’s “Hidden Gems of New England” tour will mark the first time the 87-year-old company has hosted guests for an overnight stay in Connecticut.   The tour will operate with departures from June through October, and Tauck president Jennifer Tombaugh said the company expects to bring several hundred travellers into the greater Hartford area in each of the coming years.

The redesigned Tauck tour will have the company’s guests arrive at Bradley International Airport and then begin their 8-day itinerary with an overnight at the Hartford Marriott Downtown.  During their first day in Hartford, Tauck guests will enjoy a catered dinner at the Mark Twain Museum and a private, after-hours tour of the Mark Twain House.  The following morning, guests will travel to the Harriet Beecher Stowe House for a guided visit.

According to Tombaugh, the inclusion of Hartford in Tauck’s itinerary represents the concurrence of three separate factors.  “We partnered with Ken Burns and his long-time collaborator Dayton Duncan two years ago to develop tours that incorporate the themes and topics of their films,” said Tombaugh, “and when we decided to redesign our tour of New England we approached Ken and Dayton for their input.
