Skyscanner Launches Windows 8 App

Tuesday, 30 October 2012

Leading global travel search site Skyscanner has launched a Windows 8 version of its highly rated flight search app. The free app is available through the Windows Store to download on any device that operates on Microsoft Windows 8, including desktops, laptops and PC tablets.

This is the most flexible version of Skyscanner’s free flight search app the company has developed. For the first time, the app has built in free-text search (only currently available to users in English) to make the search experience faster and more intuitive. For example users can enter "Flights to Spain next Tuesday back a week later", rather than completing several data fields, to search for flights. The app itself is available in a range of languages across Asia including Chinese, Tagalog, Bahasa Indonesian, Thai and Vietnamese.

The app also lets users pin and track flight searches to their desktop through live tiles, which are updated daily, to find the best prices to a range of destinations across a whole month or year.

Skyscanner’s highly rated travel search app, which allows users to find the cheapest flights on the go, has received over 11 million downloads. The free app was first launched on the iPhone in February 2011 and is available on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and now on devices running Windows 8. Currently, the most popular destination search for users of the Skyscanner app is the ‘Anywhere’ option which allows travellers to browse all destinations in order of price, providing inspiration on places to visit in any week, month or year.

The Skyscanner app is available in over 25 languages and is downloaded every five seconds somewhere in the world as travellers increasingly look for inspiration and plan their trip on the move.
