Friday, 9 November 2012

Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours has launched a new tour for 2013 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Operation Husky, the Allied invasion of Sicily departing on 5th July 2013.

Personally escorted by Mike Peters, a serving British Army officer and an expert on the Sicily Campaign, travellers will experience spending a night at the San Domenico Palace, the German headquarters during the campaign as well as visiting airborne drop zones, landing beaches and hill top fortresses used by the German army to great effect.

An informal commemoration service will be held at the US Memorial on the day of the 70th Anniversary of the invasion of Sicily after exploring the first major operation ever mounted by US Airborne forces. Not only for the history and war buffs, this intriguing tour takes in some of the most stunning scenery that Sicily has offer. Priced from $3497.00 per person twin share for this 8 night journey, the launch of this tour further expands Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours’ extensive product range, which covers niche battlefields that other companies do not cater for truly reflecting the company’s expertise and speciality in the field.

“Operation Husky is an extremely overlooked battle and was the biggest amphibious battle of its time until D-Day. In fact it was seen as a dress rehearsal for the D-Day landings a year later,” said Mat McLachlan, Managing Director and Historian of Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours.

“With the 70th Anniversary approaching, we have launched this memorial tour in honour of those fought and fell in this significant year overlooked battle.”
