Although Greece received a tourism revival during July and August, the nation’s economical and political instability warded visitors from booking a holiday at the beginning of the summer season.

Thousands of businesses will struggle to meet healthy income targets by the end of 2012 due to the late start, according to euronews.

“Well the income figures are not going to be so happy because we missed the beginning of the season and then afterwards had to do some discounts in order to attract our clients,” Hellenic Chamber of Hotels president George Tsakiris said.

Tourism is a vital instrument in the Greek economy and the carry-on effects of this damaging summer season will be felt well into the future.

“We lost April, May and June and the result was that we only worked July and August, just two months,” Kos Island restaurant owners president Petros Chatziveloudos said.

“You understand that two months are not enough to cover the other ten.”
