Garuda returns to Brisbane

Five years after suspending the service, Garuda Indonesia has announced its return to Brisbane.

Commencing August 2013 as part of the carrier’s Quantum Leap strategy, the airline will launch its fourth Australian port, with six times weekly flights between Brisbane via Denpasar to Jakarta.

Utilising the airline’s Boeing 737-800 NextGen aircraft, Garuda Indonesia vice president Bagus Y Siregar said the extra service would target growing capacity between the two destinations.

“Australian travel to Indonesia is growing every year, with a 20% increase in passenger numbers in the first half of this year on the same period in 2011,” Mr Siregar explained.

“We have also seen a significant growth in demand in Queensland, particularly in the leisure sector.”

Earlier this year, the Indonesian carrier announced its profits had picked up by 14.4 percent during the first nine months of 2012, compared to the same period last year.
